Spartan Logistics Announces Third Operation in Fort Smith, Arkansas
Fort Smith, AR, September 16, 2020 – Spartan Logistics, a regional third-party logistics provider, is proud to announce the recent opening of their new operation in Fort Smith, Arkansas. This dedicated location at 6815 Jenny Lind Road is a 220,000 square foot facility which will service one of the largest paper manufacturers in the world.
The building, which was constructed in 1978, offers class-A warehouse space with interior rail dock service at an ideal location just a few miles from the customer’s manufacturing plant. This becomes Spartan’s third operation in Fort Smith, AR, all of which have opened within the last six years. Spartan Logistics’ continued growth in Fort Smith shows their belief in a growing manufacturing and distribution market.
This new operation will also bring 15 new jobs to the city in addition to the dozens that have already been added at Spartan’s current facilities. “Spartan Logistics will go into any market to bring our unique commitment to service and integrity and hire passionate team members to accomplish great things for them,” says Steve Harmon, Spartan Logistics president. “Spartan now operates a total of 700,000 square feet in Fort Smith and employs over 50 of the best workers in the region.”
Spartan Logistics first became aware of this customer’s need in April during the heat of the coronavirus pandemic. Despite all the external challenges faced, Spartan worked quickly to finalize the deal and began receiving product in August, just 4 months later. Josh Ledford, Spartan Logistics’ Executive Vice President, says “every new operation has different levels of complexity and this one had it all. This particular start-up required all hands-on deck as we completed building improvements, executed a new shuttle program, transferred specialized equipment from other locations, and completed a full EDI implementation all within a short amount of time. I am very proud of our team, and am appreciative of the customer, as commitment from all was essential to this start-up.”
Spartan Logistics operates industrial real estate as a third-party logistics company combined with asset-based freight services. Spartan now serves over 100 supply chain customers at 18 warehouse locations totaling over three million square feet in five states.
